Many families have made numerous, unsuccessful attempts to help their loved ones with addiction problems. They may have tried various approaches to control or “fix” the addicted individual or they may have sought help to relieve their suffering from resources such as friends, clergy, doctors, lawyers and mental health professionals or an addiction treatment center. Despite these efforts, families often find little consolation. The addict/alcoholic continues to struggle. Frustration, fear and anger build until families reach the “jumping off point”, and seek addiction treatment professional help.
There is a professional service, an “Interventionist”, that specializes in helping families of alcoholic/addicts. They help families come to some decisions on their own about what is and what is not acceptable behavior or circumstances within their family. They also educate the family about addiction and provide a variety of individualized care and resources, as appropriate.
Immediately address a loved one’s addiction. This process usually involves addressing the addict’s behavior and facilitating an entrance into an appropriate addiction treatment program, or addiction treatment facility.

Another way to make it work is by using addiction treatment programs. Addiction treatment programs exist only to assist people with addictions and they definitely do the job that they set out to do. My friend Travis was once addicted to drugs and was having a hard time kicking the habit by himself. He tried everything that he could, but he still couldn’t get the job done. It wasn’t until we started checking out addiction treatment programs that we realized that there might actually be a light at the end of the tunnel. That light at the end of the tunnel was the excellent job that addiction treatment programs do when it comes to ridding a person’s life of drug addictions. I’ve seen it work on lots of people. It definitely worked on Travis and I’m so glad that he was open to finding a way to help himself. The addiction treatment programs that we looked at gave us an idea of what to expect in the realm of treatment and we finally came up with a program that was apropos. Drug addiction is a terrible thing to have in your life, but with addiction treatment programs you can make things right again.

Prospective drug rehabilitation patients are often overwhelmed by the number of choices on the market, and sometimes make the mistake of assuming that drug treatment centers must all be more or less the same. They aren”t, obviously. The truth is that some drug rehab centers are just plain better than others…and that the drug treatment center that’s “right” for you is the one that cares about you as an individual. With so much at stake, anything less just won”t cut it.

No one else has ever experienced addiction through the same skin you have. By the same token, your addiction treatment program should…must…be uniquely your own. Successful drug treatment is never generic. As you explore your drug rehab options, let that lesson be the one you hold above all others.

Too many addicts check into drug treatment expecting someone else to do the hard work for them, as if drug rehabilitation were the sort of thing that happened on its own. Bu that’s not right. The truth is that drug rehab is only successful to the extent that rehab patients get engaged with their own healing, and no drug addiction treatment center in the world can help a patient who isn’t willing to help herself. In the end, that’s just not the way healing works.

If you or someone you care about is victim of addiction, you need help from addiction treatment experts to get better. More importantly, though, you need to commit yourself to winning the fight on your own terms. When you check into a drug addiction treatment center, you take your future into your own hands. How you mold it is for you to decide.

It sounds simple, but like the saying goes, “common sense isn’t always common”. A sad fact about addictions is that people don’t always make the best decisions about what to do with them. Kimberly was one of those people. She was always a good girlfriend which made it easy to tell that something was wrong when she got addicted. Kim used to be good at calling and checking in. It was like clockwork especially if I was running late. We were lucky with the way we found out that she was hooked, because she was just always there checking on everyone, and then, one day, she wasn’t.

Kimberly’s absence from her daily routine was the least of our worries, however. Once I found out about her addiction and I had brought it to her attention that I knew, Kim went into uber-denial mode. I tried to let her know that I didn’t care about the addiction and that I just wanted to get her help. It was quite a struggle, but we finally made it happen. And that’s when I realized that sometimes people with addictions would rather spend the rest of their lives trying to hide them then getting the addiction treatment they need

Not that it stopped me. When you’re using, that’s all you can think about: your next score, your next hit. If you have to blow a paycheck or two to get your fix…so be it.
