a wholesale reformulation of a New You
Filed Under Drug Detox, Drug Rehab
I don’t remember most of detox, thankfully. What memories I have are mostly about pain, or anguish, or misery, or whatever melodramatic noun you want to hang on a state of being that was to say the least unpleasant, in a way that’ll make you forget such a thing as pleasantness every existed.
Detox will tear the guts out of you. It has to. That’s the way rehab works: a wholesale reformulation of a New You. To beat addiction, you’ve got to get Different; you’ve got to change the very substance of who you are…because that Who is an addict, and nothing you do could ever change that.
So yes, detox will tear the guts out of you. And it will hurt. Like hell. And when it’s done, when you’ve been hollowed out and left for dead and then brought back to life by doctors who know exactly what you need…you’ll never be so grateful for anything else in your whole entire life.
